This is not a NIMBY situation—it is a matter of size and scale. It is a noise and safety issue.
It is a city problem, one that has relied for decades on the graciousness of Christ Lutheran Church without ever formalizing a plan to provide adequate event parking or protect the experience of visitors and the quality of life in nearby neighborhoods.
There is simply not enough space for two event venues to operate side by side in a neighborhood bordering a nature preserve.

Stow House - Night at the Ranch

We love Stow House events, and we’ve learned to tolerate the parking challenges. However, the Sheriff has not been willing to ticket illegally parked attendees—whether for Stow House or Anthem Chapel events. If Christ Lutheran Church’s parking lot is no longer available, and multiple events are happening at the same time, the burden on our neighborhood becomes unfair—impacting both safety and quality of life.

The route begins on Covington Way heading west, then turns south onto Los Carneros and ends at the traffic circle. This footage was taken at 7:21 PM, after many attendees had already left. When picturing the scene, imagine the gaps between cars filled in. You can also see vehicles parked along both sides of Los Carneros, where parking is not legally allowed.

Anthem Chapel at Goleta Valley Junior High

Anthem Chapel holds services at GVJH and DPHS when they reach capacity. On our recent visits, both the GVJH and Santa Barbara Charter School parking lots were full. We counted 290 cars on June 22, and on August 10 there were an additional 25–30 cars parked on the street and in non-designated areas of the lot, including red curbs and loading/drop-off zones.

Goleta Valley Junior High’s auditorium seats 630. Anthem Chapel rents Dos Pueblos High School’s 750-seat auditorium for larger services, such as Christmas—showing that their congregation exceeds the 630-seat capacity.
